Just a lazy Sunday?

“If we get to the edge of the sea ice, there’s the potential for hazards you’ve never experienced before in your life.”

He said “never experienced before,” not “likely” or “you’ve probably never.” Interesting.

“You’ve got to watch out for leopard seals.”

Ah, yes. He chose his words appropriately. Leopard seals are an apex predator. And I certainly haven’t come across one before.

I was spending the day out on the sea ice, to see if we could map the ice to its minimum safe thickness. Some impassable cracks in the sea ice prevented us from making it that far, but it was still a pretty spectacular day.
